About Transportation

Defining Curb-to-Curb Transportation Services

Curb-to-Curb Transportation is designed for students who cannot access other modes of transportation (City Bus, Regular School Bus, etc) and require immediate supervision upon getting off the transport.  Transportation is a related service that is provided for some special education/504 students as delineated in their IEP or 504 plans.  IEP/504 teams must look at the student needs and determine if the student requires transportation as a related service. Arrangements for student transportation can take approximately two weeks from the date the request is made by the school.

Curb-to-Curb Service for Normal School Hours: Steps needed to get the service and what to expect

Step One:  At an IEP or 504 plan meeting, the team will determine if a student requires or continues to require curb-to-curb transportation at regular school hours or extended school year (ESY).  If yes continue on with the process below.

Step Two:  Add Transportation as a related service on the Service grid of the IEP or 504 plan.  Note:  Curb-to-Curb’s frequency of service should be Daily, not as minutes of service.  For all other transportation needs (vocational training or mid-day drop-off if student has a modified schedule, etc.) select Transportation and document the appropriate frequency.  In the Clarification of Supports, further define this transportation service.

Step Three:  Add the state and district transportation officers to the Student Team List so they can access the Request for Curb-to-Curb Transportation Services (ST-11) and Request for ESY Curb-to-Curb Transportation Services (ST-11B) screens in eCSSS. (See instructions)

NEXT STEPS: After following these steps, you can proceed to the Request for Curb-to-Curb Transportation Services or Request for ESY Curb-to-Curb Transportation Services screen.
