The following scenarios address common questions relating to 504 or IDEA eligibility, particularly questions that relate to switching chapters.
1. A §504 student is subsequently evaluated for IDEA
If the student is found eligible for IDEA, there is no need to do a reevaluation for §504. Go to the Active 504 Plan and on the Actions Tab put in the 504 Plan exit date and then select "found eligible for IDEA" in the program status box.
If the student is not found eligible for IDEA, a §504 reevaluation should be conducted in order to incorporate new information and address the needs of the student.
2. In the process of a §504 evaluation, the team determines that an IDEA evaluation is warranted.
Continue with the §504 evaluation and, if the student is eligible, provide services under the 504 Plan while the IDEA evaluation is being conducted. If found eligible for IDEA, proceed as above.
3. A student is found no longer IDEA eligible, but the team feels that the student may be eligible for §504
Begin a new referral for §504. Student must meet §504 eligibility criteria.
