The second stage in the Student Support Process is to Define Needs.
This stage can involve a wide range of tasks, depending on the type of concern being addressed. The ultimate goal, however, is to determine whether a challenge exists and to develop a definition of that challenge.
All Referrals
The Current Performance screen allows you to collect Current Performance information for all types of plans.
IDEA and 504
504 and IDEA referrals also may involve the following:
Evaluation - At the Conference-Needs, the team defines the student’s needs by analyzing performance data together with the parents. The team decides whether to proceed with an evaluation and whether it requires an assessment. Decisions are recorded in the Evaluation Status document. The team sends a Prior Written Notice to parents. If an assessment is required, the school must secure parental consent. If it is granted, the school sends Assessment Requests to qualified personnel, who in turn provide Assessment Reports.
Eligibility - At the Conference-Eligibility, the team evaluates previously gathered information about the student, including Assessment Report findings. The team decides whether the student is eligible for services and records decisions in the Eligibility Determination screen. Decisions are conveyed to parents via Prior Written Notice. For IDEA, the team sends the parent an Evaluation Summary Report.
