Use the Discipline tab to specify disciplinary actions taken for students who have been verified in connection with an offense.
The first part of the tab lists the number of Crisis Suspension Days that were given to the student, as well as the Crisis Suspension Start Date and Crisis Suspension End Date.
The Total Suspension Days is a calculated number that includes the Crisis Suspension Days plus any regular Suspension Days for the current incident.
Add Disciplinary Action lets you pick from a list of possible disciplinary actions. Highlight an action and click on Add to display a screen for entering information specific to the selected action.
With the exception of Firearms offenses (which have a mandatory one year dismissal), there are no predefined disciplinary actions for specific offenses.
Once you add a Disciplinary Action, a new window is displayed.
School Disciplinary Action - Use this tab to enter details about the action. See Notes about Disciplinary Actions below.
CAS Disciplinary Review - All serious disciplinary actions are subject to Disciplinary Review by the Complex Area Supervisor (CAS), by the District Supervisor or designee, or by the student's parents / guardians.
Notes about Disciplinary Actions
When defining disciplinary actions, you may be required to enter specific information, depending on the action selected. Please note:
Suspension - Crisis suspensions can be imposed short-term by the principal if the student's conduct presents a clear threat to the physical safety of self or others. Crisis suspensions are suspensions that either exceed ten school days or will result in the student affected being crisis suspended or suspended more than a total of ten school days in any single semester (per year for IDEA/504) require review by the case. Substitute educational activities are provided for all students who are crisis suspended for a period exceeding 10 days or dismissal.
Dismissal - Enter the Dismissal Start Date and Dismissal End Date, as well as the Return to School Date. Add any Comments. Substitute educational activities are provided for dismissal.
Referral to an Alt Ed Program - Enter the Program Start Date, Program End Date, and Return to School Date, as well as a Program Description, Program Location, the Discussed with Program Date, and the Program Contact.
Disciplinary Transfer - Transfer Start Date, Transfer End Date, Return to School Date, Transfer Location, Transfer Location Contact, Date Discussed with Receiving School. Disciplinary Transfer may also result in Substitute Educational Activities.
Correction and Warning - No additional fields
Conference with Student - Conference Date, Summary of Discussion
Loss of Privileges - Type of Privileges Lost (text box)
Individualized Instruction - Plan Developed Date, Summary of Instructional Targets and Goals
Time Away from Class/Activity - Description
Time in Office - Time in Office Date, Length of Time Spent in Office (in hours and/or minutes)
Parent Conference - No additional fields
Detention - Detention Days (text field), Detention Start Date, Return to Class Date, Detention Description, Description of In-School Activities
Saturday School - Comments including date(s) of Saturday school and attendance.
Interim Alt. Ed. Setting - This option is visible only for students who are IDEA- or 504-eligible when identifying them as a suspect in an incident, regardless of the date of the incident and date of Eligibility Determination. Additional screen allows schools to track students who are placed in Interim Alternative Educational Setting (IAES).The data collected in this screen helps the DOE meet federal reporting requirements. If Incident results in Serious Discipline, click the Ready for CAS button to activate "tickler" to CAS.
Concurrent Disciplinary Action - Type in a description of concurrent action.
